Carbon-Dioxide is one of the major environmental concerns of environmentalists, governments, and citizens. Electricity generation plants are one of the main sources of the pollutant.
Research and development, however, has rendered innovation that allows for modern electricity plants to capture this pollutant and either store it or use it for the harvesting of fossil fuels deep in the earth. The technology is called carbon capture and storage This new technology is being introduced to both new and existing coal fired electricity plants. The technology benefits the environment by capturing up to 90% of C02.
In some cases the captured pollutant is simply stored in containers beneath the earth. In other cases, it is actually being used in the "refrac" process for recovering aging oil wells that can produce more fossil fuels with the aid of technology. In either scenario the technology is helping to reduce carbon footprints and aiding in the process of oil production. In the future, we will obviously target cleaner fuels such as hydrogen and nuclear power. This now generation technology is helping us through this transition period today.
